Painted Blind
A novel of suspense, obsession, and the shadows between what we see and what we believe.
After witnessing a murder and becoming convinced the killer is stalking her, Clare Busby—legally blind, recently widowed, recovering from a near-fatal illness—seeks refuge in the remote home of reclusive portrait artist Simon Wakefield. But with no body, no crime scene, and no evidence, the police—and even her doctors—believe she imagined it all. Hallucinations, they say. Trauma. Nothing more.
Was it the product of a fevered imagination?
Determined to prove she isn’t losing her mind—and desperate to stop a killer she believes is still at large—Clare sets out on a dangerous investigation of her own. Who committed the murder, and who was the woman whose life was taken that horrifying night? Was her husband’s death in the O.R. due to surgical error or a rare reaction to anesthesia, as the doctors claim? What about her own haunted past—is there a connection? And there’s the matter of the mysterious artist who seems increasingly obsessed with capturing her on canvas.
Blending suspense with haunting psychological insight, Painted Blind explores the fine line between reality and illusion, the fragility of perception, and the unsettling power of art to reveal—and conceal—the truth..
